Internet Censorship
Discourse Community Problem
Internet censorship is a growing problem through out the entire world. Internet censorship can be really traced back to tyrants who first started censoring the media then when the Internet came around started to censor it. Internet censorship is mainly well known in countries like China, Vietnam, and South Korea. China erected its Great Firewall in the year 2002 but many people use proxies to get around China’s firewall. The problem with censoring the Internet is the fact that it causes such a controversy. As seen through the most recent events involving SOPA and PIPA, many people gathered throughout the United States to protest against these bills that Congress wanted to enforce. Not only has protesting against Internet censorship started here in America but Europe has been recently protesting against a new treaty called ACTA. Many people in Europe are against the bill because it could cause many problems.
Though many people would love to censor the Internet on the bases of keeping the Internet free of pornography or anything of that nature, many people have a problem with that cause many people do not look at that stuff. Australia tried censoring the internet from pornography but had little success when the people started protesting.
The matter of the fact is that pornography and online illegal activity call for a better and more efficient way of controlling the Internet. With every illegal song or software downloaded many corporations lose money. So is internet censorship bad or good? Many people still protest against a problem that arises as a hard one to answer.
Rhertorical Analysis
The rhetorical analysis assignment helped me learn how to effectively use ethos, pathos, and logos when reading an article over the Internet, from a newspaper, or any source I find. Ethos is used to verify the credibility. Pathos is used to see if the author uses any emotion to evoke the reader any bias towards the subject the author is talking about. Logos is used to evaluate the logical standpoint the author has taken. When evaluating the logos of an author, a good validate his point is to see if their sources are credible. For example if an author decides to use Wikipedia as a source do you think this is a credible source? Well with all the heat Wikipedia has been getting because of the fact that anyone can just go on a page and completely change what ever was written before to complete garbage should be enough to say that the author is not using valid sources.
An annotated bibliography is primarily used to summarize up the sources you are going to be using in a paper. In our upcoming paper this will be one of our requirements in order to stay organized and on top of things.
ACTA
PIPA and SOPA have died down since Congress decided to not let them pass back in January. For now nothing has taken surface for Internet users not to fear for their lives. We all know that ACTA have not been heard from in awhile. Many questions have been raised since then about ACTA being enforced or being repealed by the government. The problem with ACTA is that it was an executive agreement. Therefore Congress cannot repeal it. It also raises two questions: What does it have to offer the U.S. Economy and an individual’s privacy rights. While the U.S. may never answer these questions the European Court of Justice has decided to review ACTA to determine if it can satisfy freedom of expression and freedom of the Internet.
Many people in Bulgaria have decided to rally to the streets to protest against the growing concern of ACTA. They gathered not more than a couple days ago to address their growing concern of ACTA. Few towns participated in the rally against ACTA. Participates are glad to say the withdrawal from the Bulgarian cabinet from ACTA has made them very happy. On January 26, 2012, the Bulgarian government decided to sign with the Japanese ACTA treaty, but with all these protest everyone has made a successful part in ridding his or her country of the horrible treaty. If America were to rally like the Bulgarians would we rid our country of this invisible force called ACTA? If the Supreme Court were to review ACTA and see if it applied to the constitution, would things be different?

ACTA
If you thought SOPA or PIPA wait until you here The United States’ new implement on Internet control. In the year October 2007, nations started debating about a way to protect intellectual property. President Obama signed the treaty on October 1, 2011. ACTA could become an international law requiring some major changes in the U.S. economy. Many people have a problem with ACTA because of the way it first appeared out in the open. ACTA was proposed behind closed doors or secretly negotiated. Another problem with ACTA is the fact that the treaty could change drastically change several U.S. laws with out proper democratic process. Also the fact that unelected officials that runs huge corporations in the U.S. gain all the power.
The vague use of the word counterfeit or piracy puts us at risk. If you simply forget to give the owner credit because you used his song in a school video you could go to jail for the same amount of time as someone who simply downloaded an entire Bon Jovi album illegally. Not only does it affect the Internet but it could also affect the drug market since of its unclear usage of the word counterfeit. Affordable medicine could be a thing of the past if this treaty goes into affect. The limitations of enforcing trademarks and copyrights are unspecified giving Internet users a run for their money because sharing a link with a friend on Facebook could sentence them to prison.
Here are just a few details about the recently uprising problem called ACTA.
